Status: Verified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
SYMPTOM(s):
There is no server for database <dbname>. (1423)
Unable to attach shared memory <shmname>, errno <n>. (1720)
Unable to attach shared memory <shmname>, error 5. (1720)
Trying to connect to a database with PROMON
Database was started using ProControl
CAUSE:
The Progress monitor runs only on Windows systems that run shared-memory versions of Progress. When a database is started through ProControl, the process runs as a registered NT service. Access rights to shared memory need to be specified for the databases.
If the Access environment variable is not set, the above errors will occur. The access variable controls who has access to shared memory for databases, DataServer and Progress applications.
FIX:
Follow these steps to set the access environment variable:
1) Go into ProControl.
2) Click on the Detail button.
3) Go to the Environment tab.
4) Where it says "Variable", type ACCESS.
5) Where it says "Value", type ALL.
