GOAL:
How to determine the type of installation.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 32 Intel
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000

This Solution focuses on Progress Client Networking because it is the most common product that is installed on the client side to deploy an application.
The ways to verify how the Progress installation is done are:
- Look at the Windows Registry.
The Registry contains the following Client Networking
entries for any of the installation types described above:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PSC\PROGRESS\9.1X

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\ProShell\9.1X\Font
With the typical, custom and complete installation, you also
have the following entries for the DLLs files and Language:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\Client\Networking\9.1X\SystemDLLs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\LANGUAGE\9.1X
With the Shared Network installation, the DLL
files are located in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\SHARED\9.1X\SystemDLLs
- Look at the following Registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\Client Networking\9.1X
It has an "Install Type" key that can be "Typical
Install", "Custom Install" or "Complete Install". This
method does not apply for the Shared Network
installation.
If any of these entries are not found in the Registry, the product might not have been installed but put in place by using a network drive. This configuration might have some problems because missing files.
