Status: Verified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Progress 9.1x
SYMPTOM(s):
Error: The selected file is not a Microsoft Management Console document.
Error when launching Progress Explorer on the Master Installation.
CHANGE:
The Windows NT server has been used as a host machine to perform Progress Shared Network Installations onto Windows 2000 clients.
CAUSE:
Netsetup should not be run between Windows NT and Windows 2000 machines. Each operating system requires a different version of the proexp.msc file. Windows 2000 requires 1.2, while Windows NT 4.0 requires 1.1.
If you run NetSetup on a Windows 2000 machine from a Windows NT master installation, the tailoring phase on Windows 2000 knows it has to use the 1.2 version. It renames the existing proexp.msc to proexp11.msc and then renames the proexp12.msc to proexp.msc. Once this is done, Windows NT (that needs 1.1 to work) fails.
FIX:
If it is necessary to run Netsetup to both Windows NT and 2000 machines, two main/master installations are required.
One is to run Netsetup NT to Windows NT and one for Windows 2000 to Windows 2000.
