Kbase 20803: Message 'One or More Property Settings are Invalid' running the Progress Explorer

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.x
Windows
OpenEdge 10.x
OpenEdge Category: Configuration

SYMPTOM(s):

Setting a property for a NameServer or for a broker with the Progress Explorer generates the following warning message:

One or more property settings are invalid.

CAUSE:

There is an invalid value for one or more of the property settings for one of the brokers (AppServer, WebSpeed, ORACLE DataServer, ODBC DataServer, or MSS DataServer) or for one of the NameServers. The usual reason is that there are brokers or NameServers that share the same value for the port number. The brokers use the TCP ports and the NameServers use the UDP ports.

FIX:

Open the broker or NameServer that presents the warning message and change the port number:

1) Select the specific broker or NameServer.

2) Right click and highlight "Properties."

3) Select the "Port Number" entry and change it.

The port number entry is grayed out, but it should be possible to
change the value.

In some instances, it might not be possible to change the port value. In these cases, try different port numbers first, do not use common port numbers that are already defined for other default brokers, if it still does not work, delete the broker or NameServer configuration and recreate it with a new port number that is different from the other brokers or NameServers in the configuration.
