GOAL:

How to use Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) with Actuate when you viewing reports through a Web browser

FACT(s) (Environment):

Actuate 4.x
Actuate 5.x

FIX:

Some Progress customers have not been able to access linked/embedded objects when they view an Actuate Report via a Web browser. However, these links can be accessed when the report is run via Desktop. (An example of this type of report can be found in your Actuate directory under Devweb\Examples\Detail\detail.rod. This report has a link from the order number that accesses Microsoft Excel and displays data in a spreadsheet.)

The use of DHTML as the default viewer for a Web browser in order to
view a report no longer supports active viewing methods that require Actuate Basic on the client.

You must use Live Report Extension (LRE) to be able to view links to other applications from within an Actuate report.

You can make LRX the default viewer for web users by doing the following:

1) From the Developer Workbench, open the Navigator.

2) Right click on the Encyclopedia, and go to "Properties".

3) Click on the "General" tab.

4) Choose "Live Report Extension (LRX) from the combo-box labeled "Default Viewer for web users" in the "Web Options" frame.

5) Run the report again (you should be able to link to external applications from your report).
