GOAL:
Why Progress 4GL statement DISPLAY UserID can display a blank UserID
GOAL:
smit - for AIX
GOAL:
sam - for HPUX
GOAL:
scoadmin - SCO
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 4GL
UNIX
CAUSE:
The problem seems to stem from corruption of the password entry in the /etc/password file. This problem is typically associated with someone making manual changes to the /etc/passwd file (in other words, without using graphical tools like "smit - for AIX", "sam - HPUX", "scoadmin - SCO").
The UserID is blank even though:
- UNIX recognizes the UserID
- security is not enabled on the database.
FIX:
Enabling password (aging) for all users that experience the problem.
