GOAL:

What are other alternatives to using the AT scheduler on Windows?

GOAL:

What other tools can be used to schedule jobs on Windows NT?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows NT 4.0

FIX:

Windows NT users typically run batch processes with Prowin32.exe using the AT command. Unfortunately, the AT Scheduler does not allow the flexibility that is possible in the UNIX environment with cron. If there is a need to run a batch job every 20 minutes for 8 hours, for example, several AT commands are needed where each specifies a time that is 20 minutes after the previous one.

As an alternative, use the scheduler that comes with most virus scanning software, such as Norton Utilities. The Norton Scheduler works in one time, hourly, daily, work-day, weekly, and monthly segments. Jobs can be scheduled (execute a batch or command file) on a daily basis with the Microsoft AT commands for the desired increments.

Other software programs that have this flexibility are "Event Scheduler" and "V-Scheduler." There are also other shareware or freeware-based schedulers available.
