GOAL:
This solution explains where you can find example Actuate configuration XML files and also how to set up a configuration file to include customized libraries and predefined database connections when you create a new report with Actuate e.Report Designer
FACT(s) (Environment):
Actuate 4.x
Actuate 5.x
CAUSE:
The ability to have a configuration file with predefined components is useful whenever a set of database sources is already defined and you do not have to know how to connect to the database. In this case you need only to select a list of predefined data sources.
Another reason to use the e.Report Designer configuration file is for use of an explicit set of components to define the report layout. For example, the report might need to be written with an Arial font size 12 type.
FIX:
Sample configuration files can be found in the Examples/ConfigurationFile subdirectory of where you installed Actuate e.Report Designer.
The configuration file is an XML file type.
Use the following steps to create your own configuration file:
1) Create a new report with Actuate e.Report Designer.
For example, create a blank report to initially set up a configuration file. Once the file is defined, any reports you later create include the configuration file.
2) Select "View" from the menu bar.
3) Select Options.
4) Select the "File Settings" tab folder.
5) Enter the name of the configuration file you want to use in the "Load configuration file from the following file or URL" field under the "Configuration file" heading.
Use the Load button "..." to find the file or use the down arrow to pick from a previously used list.
6) Click on the OK button to save the setting.
