FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows 2000

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows XP

SYMPTOM(s):

Character client window too long vertically.

DOS prompt display screen has vertical scroll bars.

CAUSE:

The problem originates in the default settings for Windows 2000/XP that differ from those in Windows 95, 98, and NT. These previous Windows versions display a full DOS prompt screen that does not require constant scrolling.

FIX:

To correct the Windows 2000/XP behavior, follow these steps:

1) Run the Progress Character Client session in the manner it is
set up (every situation is different).

2) Right-mouse click on the session's title bar and click on
"Properties".

3) Click on the "Layout" tab.

4) Change the "Screen Buffer Size" values to 80 for the Width and
25 for the Height.

5) Click on "OK" to apply the changes.

6) When prompted, select "Modify shortcut which started this
window".

7) Close.

8) Restart the Character Client session.

Now the whole screen should show and the vertical scroll bars should no longer appear.

Several other setting might need adjustment, but for the scroll bar scenario, the only other values that might need modification are the "Window Size" values on the "Layout" tab.
