A PANIC is always due to a problem with the operating system (OS). No application software should cause a PANIC in the system. One application may see it while another doesn't because Progress might be using a different portion of memory. Nevertheless it is the OS that must addressed.
It is strongly recommended that you contact your hardware vendor to troubleshoot the PANIC.
FIX:
The application of the following patches solved the error in this case (the download site is included).
