FACT(s) (Environment):

SYMPTOM(s):
Unknown File Error Code during Progress installation
NEGATEDCAUSE:
This Problem does not seem to be:
- bad media (CD/tape)
or,
- a hard disk, network etc. or hardware issue.
CAUSE:
The problem has proven to be caused by the fact that one of the previously installed parts were not uninstalled correctly due to either install file/dir/grp permission/corruption-related issues since a reinstall of the Progress media in a fresh directory works fine.
FIX:
When you install Progress to, for example the directory /usr/dlc, perform the following steps:
1) mv /usr/dlc /usr/xxx.
2) Reinstall Progress into /usr/dlc.
3) Remove subdirectory xxx under /usr by using OS commands.
In some circumstances, the manual uninstall may leave some traces to an existing installation on UNIX platforms which prevent a reinstall.
