SUMMARY:

Three Microsoft Management Console (MMC) problems can occur with
Progress Version 9.1A05 if the value set for the license
count is less than the default. This solution presents a
workaround.

EXPLANATION:

By default, the value found in the properties of the defaultConfiguration page is 20. The page is located in the Progress Explorer below the user's defined database icon and configuration folder.
If the value of the actual license count is less than 20 (15 in this example), the following three problems occur:

1) The sub-pages of the defaultConfiguration properties sheet all
show the OK button grayed-out and properties cannot be
confirmed when making changes.
The four subpages are:

-General
-Background Writers
-Format
-Advanced

2) The Maximum Users: field is grayed out.

3) Whenever you change focus from the "General", "Background
Writers", "Format", and "Advanced", the following error
occurs:

(One or more property settings are invalid!)

SOLUTION:

In the above example, the correct license count of "15" has to be manually entered in the Progress Explorer's "Maximum Users:" field. This value setting is not available in the conmgr.properties file.
The actual license count number should be automatically checked instead of using the default value.
