SYMPTOM(s):
Connecting to a remote AdminServer from the Progress Explorer.
Invalid username and/or password specification. (9173)
Failed logging in user: . (8541)
AdminServer port does NOT have a conflict.
Username and password are correct.
Linux machine does not use NIS for userid/password validation.
Linux machine has MD5 password encryption.
Cannot apply patch to Progress Installation.
CAUSE:
Bug #20000412-013
CAUSE:
The Progress Explorer tool will not allow logins to the AdminServer with MD5 passwords enabled.
FIX:
To workaround the problem:
Generate a standard encrypted password, and add the password into the password file (or shadow password file, if enabled).
