GOAL:
How to avoid possible issues around installation of the Actuate Suite v4.x e.Reporting Server with existing Release v3.x installations.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Actuate 3.x
CHANGE:
New installation of Actuate v4.x e.Report Server in an enviroment with a Actuate v3.x preinstalled
CAUSE:
In general, Actuate 4 RS can coexist with earlier releases of Actuate but some considerations must be taken in advance.
FIX:
The following list explains product coexistence issues for Actuate 4.x and Release 3.x installations:
- One copy of Actuate Release 3.x and one copy of Actuate 4.x can reside on the same machine. They must be installed in separate directory structures. Release 3.x and Actuate 4.x report servers can run at the same time on the same machine.
- Web server issues:
1) Release 3.x Web Agent and Actuate 4.x ReportCast cannot coexist on a Windows NT platform running the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) web server. You must install either the Release 3.x Web Agent, or Actuate 4 ReportCast, but not both.
2) Release 3.x Web Agent and Actuate 4.x ReportCast can coexist on Windows NT when you run Netscape web servers. The servers must be installed with separate instances of the web server in separate web document root folders.
3) If you create another instance of the Netscape web server on Windows NT, create a different document root directory for the new instance. Netscape's default behavior on Windows is to use the same document root directory as the existing web server instance. - Actuate Desktop products:
1) If an Actuate Release 3.x and Actuate 4.x Report Server coexist on the same machine, Release 3.x desktop products automatically connect to Release 3.x servers and Actuate 4.x desktop products connect automatically to Actuate 4.x servers.
2) Release 3.x desktop products cannot connect to Actuate 4.x Report servers or ReportCast. Actuate 4.x desktop products cannot connect to Release 3.x report servers or Web Agent.
3) You can install Release 3.x and Actuate 4.x LRXs on the same machine. Release 3.x and Actuate 4.x LRXs automatically connect with the appropriate Actuate releases. - Starting the Report Servers:
1) If an Actuate Release 3.x and Actuate 4.x report server coexist on the same machine, you must start the Release 3.x services before you start the Actuate 4.x specific services.
2) Release 3.x Web Agent and Actuate 4.x ReportCast can coexist on the same UNIX machine. They must be installed with different instances of the web server.
