FIX:
What is the BDK?
Together with several partners, Progress Software Benelux
developed BDK. The BDK is not merely a toolkit, but a way of
designing, developing and deploying new business applications,
with the help of the appropriate tools and components.
What does the BDK consist of?
The BDK is based on the following 6 elements:
1) Architecture
The BDK provides a framework upon which Progress
based applications can be created without much
effort, while exploiting the full power of the
Progress 4GL.
2) Programs & Templates
These are additions to the standard Progress
development environment to support the development
according to the architecture and standards that
come with the BDK.
3) Service Components
These components fulfill secondary functionality of
applications like authorization, message handling,
printer services, etc.
4) User Interface Components
These components can be added to the basic GUI of
Progress. The components are menu-bar, toolbar,
tree-view, browser, etc.
5) Guidelines
In order to guarantee re-use of components and
exchange of components, standards are a
prerequisite. The BDK itself is developed according
these standards and guidelines.
6) Component Factory
In time the component factory will handle the
admission and distribution of newly developed
components. The BDK foundation will take
responsibility for this effort.
