Solution ID: 12771
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress/400
FIX:
During connection from your PC client to the AS/400 Server if any error occurs on the "Allocate" or "Intial Receive" it is often because the PC Support/400 router has timed out. The PC Support/400 router times out after a certain length of inactivity.
Some suggestions to try during these timeout issues:
1. Restart the router should be the first thing to try when connect problems occur.
2. Install shared folders will keep the router active, avoiding timeouts. PROGRESS/400 does not use shared folders although it would be possible to use the AS/400 drive. If there is real memory constraints, installing the shared folders is not always possible.
3. Restart the router once MS-Windows is up is to open a DOS session, is to change directory to where PC Support is installed (usually \PCS) and issue the start router command (startrtr). Then exit back to Windows and PROGRESS execute the "connect". This minimizes the chances that the router will time out before starting the PROGRESS session.
