(853) clock has gone backwards - reasons error occurs
The PROGRESS error 853 "clock has gone backwards" usually occurs
for one of the following reasons:
1) Someone changes the system clock while PROGRESS is running.
PROGRESS must not be running when the clocks are changed
2) If you upgrade the OS beyond the version which we suport.
3) If you upgrade PROGRESS to a version that is not support by the OS.
Before going to backup, it is recommended that you try rebooting the
system.
In cases where you need to upgrade your OS to a version that PROGRESS
was ported to, usually rebooting the system on the new os, then
restarting the progress server solves the problem.
If rebooting does not work, you must go to a backup.
The reason behind the error 853 is because PROGRESS specifically
checks to see if the system time has gone backwards to ensure
database integrity. When the BI notess are created for the BI file,
PROGRESS needs them in chronological order.
