Smartdrive disk caching, versions and functions
Smartdrive is a disk-caching utility included with DOS and Microsoft
Windows. Disk caching is a process whereby the most recent information
read from or to a disk is held temporarily in a buffer(disk cache)
in RAM. If a program requests the information, the disk cache delivers
it, avoiding disk access. The following list describes the
Smartdrive versions.
Smartdrive Version 3.0 comes with MS-Windows 3.0 (READ-only)
Smartdrive Version 3.1 comes with DOS 5.0 (READ-only)
Smartdrive Version 4.0 comes with MS-Windows 3. (READ and WRITE)
Smartdrive Version 4.1 comes with DOS 6.0 (READ and WRITE)
Do not use Smartdrive when the BI file is on the drive that is using
the write-caching.
When you use PROGRESS, disable write-caching in Smartdrive Versions
4.0 and 4.1 by using /C when you load Smartdrive. This forces all
writes to the disk immediately.
