GOAL:

Progress Explorer Functionality in Versions 9.x

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.x

FIX:

An AdminServer is installed on every Windows NT system where you install a Progress database. On Windows NT, the AdminServer runs as a service and starts automatically. If you start a database from Progress Explorer, a message is sent to the AdminServer to start the database.

For further illustration, if you exit Progress Explorer, then later restart it and reconnect to the AdminServer, the database is still running. If you stop the AdminServer the database is left running. If you restart the AdminServer, it will automatically know the current state of any databases previously started and reconnect to them. You can set the "autostart" flag for a database in Progress Explorer. When set, the database starts when you start the AdminServer, provided it is not already running.
