SYMPTOM(s):
Problem starting Progress Explorer.
Error: "Snapin failed to initialize".
CAUSE:
A Progress Installation Utility bug can cause this error message.
The "Snapin" message occurs because you also received an error message during installation of Progress Version V9.1A. It concerns ProCtrl.cpl (ProControl Control Panel Applet) in the System (Windows 9x) or System32 (Windows NT) directory. The error means the file ProCtrl.cpl is marked as Read-Only.
The error disappears after you click the OK button in the dialog box.
FIX:
To avoid the error, make sure ProCtrl.cpl is not Read-Only before starting to install Progress Version 9.1A.
