SYMPTOM(s):
Error 5149 in database log file when trying to start a database through ProControl
The Host parameter supplied was <host>, however, this Host is <host>. (5149)
ProControl times out after error 5149 is returned by the database
ProControl Warning: "TIMEOUT - Continue waiting?"
FACT(s) (Environment):
The same configuration works fine in Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x
All Supported Operating Systems
CAUSE:
Progress 8 and 9 differ in means of specifying the host name when starting the database with ProControl.
In Progress version 8, you can start a database with the -H <host-name> parameter where <host-name> is a different name than the current machine name (a logical host name rather than a physical host name). This is defined in the "startup parameters" fill-in of the Connection window within the Dictionary.
In Progress version 9 this is no longer valid.
FIX:
You must use as <host-name> the name of the machine where the database is started. If the host name specified with -H is not the physical machine name, then ProControl cannot start the database server.
