This document will supply you with information found while installing Progress 9.0B on a Compaq Tru64 4.0D UNIX system. The problem encountered was the install program would not accept the JAVAHOME directory.
Details:
The JAVA 1.1.7B-7 JRE was installed on the system in /usr/opt/JAV111. Proceeded to add /usr/opt/JAV117 to the PATH environment variable. During the Progress 9.0B install you are prompted for the JAVAHOME directory. Entering the above path, Progress will complain that it needs the correct home directory for the JDK.
Resolution:
The Progress installation program is taking the JAVAHOME directory and appending "/bin/java" to it, and then trying to find or run this JAVA file during the installation.
In the Compaq install this file does not exist in the "/bin/java" location. After doing a search the JAVA file it was found in /usr/bin, this file was a soft link into the bin directory of the JAVA install to a file called .java_wrapper.
CD to the /usr/opt/JAV117/bin directory and create a file called JAVA as a soft link to the file called .java_wrapper. Once this is done the Progress install will accept the JAVAHOME directory input of /usr/opt/JAV117.
