Kbase 19478: Progress Version 9.0B ODBC DSV and UNIX Client Support
Autor   Progress Software Corporation - Progress
Acesso   Público
Publicação   2/2/2000
Progress Version 9.0B provides an ODBC DataServer on Unix and
NT platforms. Customers connecting from a UNIX client to an
ODBC DataServer on either NT or UNIX must also install the ODBC DataServer on the UNIX client. There is no remote ODBC DataServer access from a UNIX platform without the DataServer license
on the UNIX Client. The ODBC DataServer license will be
provided (complimentary) by Progress to customers that
purchase the ODBC DataServer for NT and need to connect
from UNIX clients.

An ODBC library called libodbc.xx is required on the UNIX
client in addition to installing the ODBC DataServer on
the UNIX client. This file (libodbc.so for solaris, libodbc.a
for ibm, libodbc.sl for hpux 11) will be available for
download from the Progress FTP site in the near future.

Progress Version 9.1A ODBC DataServer and UNIX Client Support

Progress Version 9.1A will not support ODBC DataServer on UNIX. Support for the ODBC DataServer on UNIX has been discontinued in Version 9.1A. Support for a UNIX client connecting to an ODBC DataServer on NT will not be available in Progress Version 9.1A (support will be added for Version 9.1B (see paragraph below).
There is no workaround to provide this connectivity in Progress Version 9.1A. Progress Version 9.1A will allow NT clients
to connect to an ODBC DataServer on NT only.

Customers considering an upgrade from 9.0B to 9.1A must either continue using 9.0B or wait until 9.1B is available (second
half of 2000) if they require a UNIX client connecting to
an ODBC DataServer on NT.

Product defects that are detected in 9.0B will be reviewed
for a fix based on the current Progress guidelines for
providing patches to commercial releases.

Progress Version 9.1B ODBC DataServer and UNIX Client Support

It is currently planned that Progress Version 9.1B support
will be added for UNIX clients connecting to an ODBC DataServer
on NT. It is currently planned that this support will be built
into the Progress Client and will not require the deployment
of an additional ODBC DataServer license or an ODBC Merant
Driver on the UNIX client.
