INTRODUCTION:
=============
This article is written to minimize installation, configuration and start up problems - a general best practices approach - when installing Progress software products for multiple users.
There are other methods - But the goal is to help users avoid common problems.
Installation of Progress products on Windows NT Requires the user to be logged in SPECIFICALLY as Administrator.
This is very important, especially, If the system is to be accessed by more than one user.
Any username - (even with Administrator rights, e.g. a member of the Administrators Group) - does not by default have the system rights Progress requires to successfully install AND then also run as another username.
There are specific rights NOT granted to users in the Administrators Group. Two such rights are - "Log on as a batch job" and "Log on as a service"
These two appear to have direct impact. Other NT user rights are involved as well. See Kbase# 18055 for more details.
Technical support fields a large number of calls where customers are new to Progress and unfamiliar with best practices. They proceed incorrectly through the install to get a not-fully-functional installation.
SOLUTION:
=========
Verify customers are logged in as Administrator of the machine to perform Progress software installation.
If they have attempted an install already, it is probably best if they uninstall first. Then, logged in properly, reinstall the product(s).

Additional information from the bug description:
EXPECTED RESULTS:
The customer will read and follow the instructions in our documentation. As a result they will understand that they MUST be logged in to a Windows NT machine -
VERY Specifically - as "Administrator"
of the machine they are installing on (NOT the local domain).
FURTHER COMMENTS:
Many calls come in with various descriptions and symptoms but ultimately the installation is bad due to insufficient system priveledge/permissions/rights on the part of the installer.
