FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 98
FACT(s) (Environment):
Webspeed 3.x
SYMPTOM(s):
Developing web-based applications.
Unable to find (8281)
Unable to connect to Progress AdminServer at (8287)
CAUSE:
One can argue that Windows 95/98 machines have a personal web server so you should be able to develop on these operating systems.
The Windows 95/98 machines are single-user machines and not server operating system platforms.
The transaction servers cannot run on these platforms.
The following applies to WebSpeed 3.x.:
From Progress Version 9.x Installation Notes for
Windows:
"Progress Version 9 supports the Windows 95 / 98
platform, with the following exceptions:
- WebSpeed Transaction Server
- WebSpeed Enterprise Transaction Server
- AppServer
- ProVISION Development Server
- ProVISION Plus Development Server, WebSpeed
Development Server, Enterprise Database, and
Workgroup Database
FIX:
While you can use Windows 95/98 as development clients, you must have a server OS (Windows NT or UNIX) to run the Progress WebSpeed Transaction Server product.
In the case of Windows NT, the development client and the transaction server product can be installed on the same computer box.
