GOAL:

What files are needed to convert a Progress 8.x database to Progress 9.x

FIX:

Under certain circumstances you may need to convert a single volume Progress 8.3x Database to a multi-volume structure with only Progress 9.x available to do this.

For the Progress 9.x installation, a COMPLETE install must be selected; if you use Typical/Custom installation, these utilities are NOT installed automatically. Also, please be aware that these utilities are only available with database licenses (Enterprise Database Server and Workgroup Database Server); they are not included, for example, in the ProVISION license.

The needed utilities can be found in the directory %DLC%\bin\83dbutils which includes the following files:

83conv78.bat
83makemultiv.bat
83truncatebi.bat
83version
83_dbutil.exe
83_proutil.exe
convmap.cp
progress.cfg
progress.ini
promsgs
readme
startup.pf

The files in the DLC\bin\83dbutils directory are supplied for Progress 8.3x to Progress 9.x database conversion purposes only as documented in the above readme file.

Any other uses are strictly prohibited and unsupported.

Follow normal database backup procedures prior to performing any modification to your database with these utilities. If you have not yet performed a backup of your database please refer to the 'backing up your database' in section 2 in the readme file.
