FACT(s) (Environment):

SYMPTOM(s):
Progress crashes with GPF after install.exe & setup.exe is executed
CHANGE:
Installed Progress version on the same machine as an existing Oracle 8 installation.
CAUSE:
Oracle 8 is registered in a manner that is overriding the DLLs used by the Progress install shield.
FIX:
Follow these steps for a workaround:
1) Open a command line prompt and type:
SET PATH=
F:\setup.exe
You should then get a warning that ORAxxx.DLL (ORA804
in this case) was not found.
2) Click OK.
You could also temporarily rename the Oracle installation directory
before starting your Progress setup.
From, for example, D:\ORANT to D:\ORANTTMP.
