This error has been with Progress from 8.0 to 8.2C. It was patched in 8.2C07.
It will also appear as "<database> ERROR cannot find lock .lk file" when trying to start
a database server from ProControl.
To make sure that the error is in fact
"The server terminated with exit code 1. (800)"
open a Command prompt and try to start the Database server manually
with no parameters;_Mprosrv.exe <Database>
The original problem indicated that the Shared Memory that should be assigned to
the server is already in use, This might seem strange as the database
server should not be running.
If the database is on an NFS mounted drive, check the properties of the drive & make sure it is not set to "Read Only".
If it is read only, you will get the 800 error.
Move the database off the NFS drive to a drive with read/write privileges and the server will start.
Rebooting the server was the solution for the original error that was patched in 8.2C07, but it will not clear the 800 error in this case.
