INTRODUCTION:
=============
This knowledge base offers a possible solution for the following error:
Format of extent failed at byte . (6751)
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
When creating a new multi-volume database and you see this error it may be that you are running out of disk space.
For example,
prodb sports sports
Format of extent ./sports.b1 failed at byte 1024. (6751)
Create database failed. Check your structure file. (8374)
This error indicates that the creation of the database has failed because the sports.b1 extent cannot be formatted past 1024 bytes. The sports.b1 is the first line in the sports.st file in Progress version 9. Therefore, if your disk is low on space Progress will fail to format the extent and will then display this error.
