GOAL:
How to Edit the Windows NT Registry
GOAL:
Problems with deleting Registry keys during an uninstall of Progress.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT
FIX:
The use of Regedit is advisable only for searching the Registry on Windows NT. You should not use Regedit to delete Registry keys. The command is the Windows 95 Registry editor and is included with Windows for it's search capabilities.
Microsoft advises that you should only use Regedit to search but use "Regedt32" to do any changes.
Regedit knows nothing about Windows NT security, and often cannot change a key. Try Regedt32 to see if it can do the deletion.
There may be times when you cannot delete a Registry key even though you are logged in as the administrator. At such times, check the security for this Regkey (by clicking on security in the menu bar - permissions.) Here, it probably indicates "SYSTEM- Full Control, USER-read". You must "give" the administrator full control to this key in order to delete it.
