Customers migrating from 8.2 to 8.3b should be aware that there is a set of utilities provided with 8.3B that should assist in possible problems when upgrading. The programs are in %DLC%\bin\82dbutils and are fully documented in the %DLC%\bin\82dbutils\readme file.

To install these utilities you have to do a Complete Install or choose these components when using a Custom Install. Note however that they are NOT available with a 8.3b ProVISION licence, even under Complete Install.

Of particular note is the 82truncatebi.exe. Under version 8.3A, if the bi was not first truncated using 8.2 then the only way to access the database with 8.3 was to truncate the bi under 8.2 - this often lead to customers having to reinstall 8.2 to be able to truncate. With 82dbutils\82truncatebi.exe the bi can now be truncated without using 8.2.

82truncatebi Use to truncate the bi file for a PROGRESS
Version 8.2 single or multi-volume Database.

82conv68 Use to convert a PROGRESS Version 6 database to
PROGRESS Version 8.2 format. If the PROGRESS Version 6 database has a single volume structure
the 82makemultiv utility may be used to convert
it to a multi-volume structure prior to
connecting to the database with PROGRESS Version 8.3 for the first time.

Usage: 82conv68 <dbname>

82conv78 Use to convert a PROGRESS Version 7 database to
PROGRESS Version 8.2 format. If the PROGRESS
Version 7 database has a single volume structure
the 82makemultiv utility may be used to convert it to a multi-volume structure prior to
connecting to the database with PROGRESS Version 8.3 for the first time.

Usage: 82conv78 <dbname>

Please note that these utilities (and 83dbutils) are also supplied with version 9.
