The 7.x release of the Progress NLM database server automatically
spawns multiple threads upon being LOAD'd at the Netware system console. Some customer's may think that these additional threads are are some type of "phantom" database server process left behind from the last time the NLM database server was running. This is not so !
The Progress NLM database server was built as a multi-threaded NLM. One of these threads handles the database requests, such as logins, logouts and tranactions. This thread typically will display a fair amount of activity when viewed via the Netware's MONITOR utility.
The other threads handle screen requests and are primarily used by the Progress NLM itself, thus very little or NO activity is typically seen on these threads when being "occasionally viewed" via Netware's MONITOR utility. This is normal behaviour for the Progress NLM !
To actually see these threads you can LOAD the Netware MONITOR utility and select "System Module Information" from the "Available Options" menu. Then select "Progress 7.x Database Server" from the sub-menu; followed by "Threads" from the final sub-menu. Within this screen you will see that there are in fact 2 or more threads in use by the Progress NLM database server.
