FIX:
The Progress/400 DataServer version is not the same as the Native 4GL Client version installed for Progress/400 Product versions 8 and 9. The DataServer version does not reflect the Native 4GL functionality.
For example DataServer 7.3XX and Native 4GL 8.0CXX:
The DataServer is version 7.3CXX. This means that it only supports functionality available in 7.3C. Any functionality that was added to the Progress server after 7.3C is not implemented on the DataServer. The Native 4GL client only supports 8.0 Progress functionality.
Every new feature/implementation in the 4GL that was implemented in 8.1 and later will NOT work on the Native 4GL client, unless it is specified in the Releases Notes. Some features that are not supported by the 8.0XX Native 4GL client are
BUFFER-COPY, RAW datatype, RAW-TRANSFER, TEMP-TABLE,..
Progress/400 9.x
For the Progress/400 DataServer 9.0A, the Native 4GL client is 8.0D. The same
rules apply as listed above. The Native 4GL client is 8.0 compliant.
Progress 8.x/9.x clients can connect to a version 8 DataServer broker. However, when using the version 9 DataServer broker, only Progress 9.x clients can connect.
