GOAL:
What type of Data Admin/Dictionary tool connections can be made to a database running 64 bits on Windows?
GOAL:
Can I connect to a database running 64 bit shared memory on 64 bit Windows using the GUI Database Admin/Dictionary tool?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2003
OpenEdge 10.2B
OpenEdge Database Category: Configuration
FIX:
The 64 bit release of OpenEdge for Windows 64 bit contains a 64 bit database server, a 64 bit character client, and a 32 GUI client.
In Single User Mode, either the Character or GUI Data Admin/Dictionary tool may be used to connect to the database.
In Multi-User mode, the Character Client can make both a direct/shared memory connection and a remote client server connection. The GUI Data Admin/Dictionary tool, since it is 32 bit, can only make a client server connection to the database. Any attempt to make a multi-user direct/shared memory connection from a GUI Data Admininstration/Dictionary tool to a database running with 64 bit shared memory will result in a 1178 message:
"The Shared Memory is version 39518208; expected 12371 (1178)"
