Progress 9.0A and Webspeed 3.0A on HP-UX 10.20 - Important

Effective immediately, Progress Version 9.0A and Progress
WebSpeed Version 3.0A for the HP-UX 10.20 platform will no
longer be generally available. Additionally, Progress will
not be providing any future releases for HP-UX 10.20.
Future releases will be for HP-UX 11 and later versions of
the HP-UX Operating System.

Kernel-scheduled native thread support is required to build
a reliable, high-performance Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
Progress Version 9/WebSpeed Version 3 depends on Java for
many of its functions and so requires a robust JVM.
Unfortunately, HP-UX 10.20 does not support kernel-scheduled
native thread support. As a result, the HP-UX 10.20 JVM is
not reliable and functions that require it do not perform as
expected. This issue is not one that is in Progress's power
to resolve since the root of it is the fact that HP-UX 10.20
does not have the native thread support required to implement
a reliable JVM.

For the reasons cited above, we have made the decision to stop
shipping Progress Version 9.0A and WebSpeed Version 3.0A on
HP-UX 10.20 immediately. We will provide patches to those
releases until the end of July at which point we will consider
them retired.

Customers who are currently deploying Progress Version 9.0A
or Progress WebSpeed Version 3.0A on HP-UX 10.20 need to switch
to HP-UX 11 or, if such a change is not possible, perhaps go
back to Progress Version 8.3B and Progress WebSpeed Version 2.1
on HP-UX 10.20.
