SYMPTOM(s):
An _mprshut progress appears to go run away with CPU
Startup of the database server is much slower than in previous versions of OpenEdge.
Database log file shows that the Save Key Events daemon is running for this database.
Starting the Save Key Events daemon. (13658)
Messages in the database log file:
[2011/01/26@20:54:29.272-0500] P-10572 T-9156 I KEVTRDR 5: (452) Login by on .
[2011/01/26@20:54:29.341-0500] P-10572 T-9156 I KEVTRDR 5: (13658) Starting the Save Key Events daemon.
[2011/01/26@20:54:29.341-0500] P-10572 T-9156 I KEVTRDR 5: (2518) Started.
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge 10.2B 32-bit
CAUSE:
The database has been enabled for save key events. This results in a daemon process being started (_mprshut dbname -C keyevents) against the database. The purpose of this daemon is to scan the database log file and create records for key events in the _KeyEvt table of the database.
FIX:
To terminate the save key events daemon, you can disable the daemon by issuing the following command:
proutil dbname -C disablekeyevents
Shutting down the database will stop the save key events daemon. The daemon process will exit. However, once the database is restarted, the daemon process will also be restarted. This daemon process cannot be terminated via the proshut command either. The only way to terminate the daemon is to disable it with the command mentioned above.
