Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress/400 8.0Cx
SYMPTOM(s):
The PROTCPBRK job shuts down
There are no available ports to start new a PROSERVER job
When PROTCPBRK shuts down, it generates DSPJOB and QPRINT output.
CAUSE:
When the PROTCPBRK job starts, it has a range of ports from which it can allocate new PROSERVER jobs. In early versions of PROGRESS/400, these are hardcoded from 1025 to 2000, but in 8.0C60 they can be set from the STRPRONET command.
If all the ports in this range are used, the PROTCPBRK will not be able to start a new PROSERVER job with a port number. At this point, the PROTCPBRK will shut down.
FIX:
Free up the services between 1025 and 2000, or increase the range by raising the last port number.
