SYMPTOM(s):
Dr. Watson error message during an installation.
CAUSE:
A Progress installation requires some files from your machine to perform correctly. If the Oracle Directory has been defined (before %WINNT or after %WINNT%) in your PATH, you get a GPF during a Progress installation.
FIX:
The first thing to check when you receive an error is the DRWTSN32.LOG that is created in the %WINNT%\ directory. Search for any reference to oracle73.exe. If you find oracle73.exe, either of the following two workarounds will resolve the problem:
- Workaround one:
Before you start the Progress installation, rename the Oracle directory (for example, from ORANT to ORANTTMP). After this is done, take these steps:
1) Stop the Oracle database.
2) Perform the Progress installation until the end.
3) Rename the Oracle directory back to the previous name (ORANTTMP to ORANT).
- Workaround two:
Temporarily remove ORANT from the Windows NT path environment variable. Once this is done, follow these steps:
1) Apply the change by pressing the "apply" button.
2) Perform the Progress Installation until the end.
3) Change the Windows NT PATH environment variable to reflect ORANT now.
