SYMPTOM(s):

Cannot get the promon gather script on Linux to run without errors.

Errors are not associated with tools not being found.

Errors seem to indicate that the UNIX shell cannot interpret the commands appropriately.

Using InVue terminal emulator.

Issue occurs if TERM environment variable is set to vt-220 or xterm.

Editing the gather script on UNIX to remove solution and comments from the script.

FACT(s) (Environment):

Promon gather script was saved on a Windows machine.
The gather script was copied to a Linux Server machine.
Gather script is running as root.

CAUSE:

The terminal emulator being used on the Linux Machine is inserting strange characters for tabs and spaces within the ASCII file.

FIX:

Change the terminal configuration characteristics to remove translation of spaces and Tabs.

or

Edit the file on Windows and then save it.
Then ftp the file in binary mode from Windows to UNIX.
Then grant execute permissions on the file using the chmod command.
Then execute the file on UNIX without any additional modifications to the file on UNIX.
