Getting error 778 when clients are trying to connect to a database on Windows 2008 after applying Service Pack SP2 to Windows machine.
Error <read/writing> socket, ret=<n>, errno=<n>. (778)

FACT(s) (Environment):
Client is connecting to the database via an icon on the desktop.
Firewall is disabled on the client and server machine.
Can connect to the databases in client / server mode from the server machine.
Client PC can connect in a client / server mode to this database when ran from a PROENV window.

CAUSE:
The icon on the desktop contains a startup program that is responsible for connecting the client to the databases. The program had the wrong -S parameter.
FIX:
Modify the program being used to connect to the database to contain the correct service name (-S) for the database.
