Status: Unverified
SYMPTOM(s):
NetSetup installation showing UNC path to network installation instead of mapped drive letter.
NetSetup installation does not list mapped drive when installing onto Windows 7 Home Premium.
NetSetup installation does not list mapped drive when installing onto Windows 7 Home Premium and User Account Controls set to default.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 7 Home Premium
OpenEdge 10.2B
OpenEdge Category: Language (4GL/ABL)
CAUSE:
Changes to the Windows 7 operating system effect the behavior of drive mapping.
Two changes are necessary to allow behavior similar to earlier versions of Windows where the NetSetup installation on a client machine would store the Mapped Drive Letter reference in the registry and progress.ini file.
FIX:
Refer to this Microsoft website for instructions on enabling the EnableLinkedConnections option within the registry: How to set EnableLinkedConnections http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee844140%28WS.10%29.aspx
After turning on EnableLinkedConnections it will be necessary to reboot the machine.
After rebooting the machine it will be necessary to set the User Access Controls to Never Notify (the lowest setting).
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Open the Control Panel
3) Click on User Accounts
4) Click on Change User Account Control
5) There is a slide control. Drag this down till the setting is at the bottom next to the Never Notify value.
Reboot the machine.
After rebooting the machine, make a mapped drive connection to the location where Progress / OpenEdge is installed.
NOTE: The Progress / OpenEdge installer requires the shared mapping to be to one directory higher than the installation directory, i.e. the installation directory can not be the root of a mount point / share.
