GOAL:
How to Access & Use the Event Viewer Tool.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
FIX:
To launch the Event Viewer on Windows NT, choose:
START > Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
On Windows 2000, choose:
START > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
The Event Viewer window displays events with color-coded icons to indicate the level of each event:
Blue = Information
Yellow = Warning
Red = Error
Double-click on any of these line items to bring up the Event Properties dialog box. There, additional details about the event are shown.
The Event Viewer tracks information related to such things as, System Security, Application Operation and Operating System or Hardware.
Click "Log" on the menu bar to select these options.
The Events to be viewed can be customized in a variety of ways.
On Windows NT, choose "View", for example, on the toolbar and then choose "Filter Events". This allows the user to set up events to be viewed within particular "timeframes", "types" (Information, Warning, Error or Success Audit-Failure Audit), "category", etc.
