After the error message all data requested by the query was returned.
Clients odbc.ini file was confirmed as pointing to OpenEdge 10.1C
There are multiple versions of Progress installed on this host.
Version of Progress being run is 10.1C with java version 1.5.
Proinventory detected Progress was 10.1B with java version 1.4.2 only.

CAUSE:
The environment of the client is not configured correctly. Clients odbc.ini file pointed to the 10.1C installation, however, the clients profile was pointed to 10.1B.
FIX:
Correct the environment so DLC, java and Shared Library environment variables are for the desired version of Progress.
