GOAL:
Suppressing Windows is Exiting Dialog box -wy
GOAL:
-wy startup parameter
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 7.X
Progress 8.X
Progress 9.X
OpenEdge 10.x
Windows
FIX:
The -wy startup parameter is used to allow a Progress application to terminate without having the "Windows is Exiting" and/or "End Task" dialog boxes being displayed when the user logs out of Windows or shuts down the machine.
When logging out or shutting down Windows with a Progress application running, two dialog boxes will appear on your monitor:
Firstly, a Windows dialog box informing the user that "Windows is Exiting" is displayed followed by a second dialog box requesting that the user "End Task".
This behavior will occur under the following conditions:
1) If the Progress application is actively running on the desktop
2) If the Progress application is minimized
3) If Progress is running as a Service with "Allow service to interact with desktop" enabled
To disable the Windows messages, use the Windows Exit-No Dialog parameter (-wy) to suppress the two exit dialog boxes, thereby allowing the Progress process to quit silently and without user intervention.
Place the -wy parameter at the end of the Progress startup command line.
