Database stalls before online backup begins
Delay between backup starting and Full backup started. (1362) recorded in the database lg file
FACT(s) (Environment):
All transaction activity is suspended as soon as online probkup is issued from a cron job
The database backup volume is 90 GB
OpenEdge 10.x
Sun Solaris SPARC 64-bit
CAUSE:
The previous backup volume still exists on disk. When the next online probkup is run, the OS first removes the previous volume before allowing the probkup to proceed during which time the implicit online probkup quiet point has already been raised on the database thereby suspending all transaction activity until the bi files have completed their backup.
FIX:
Add a line to the backup script to delete the previous backup volume prior to issuing the 'probkup online' statement.
