I am generating this kbase to assist customers that may be
experiencing problems when trying to display accentuated characters
in version 8.3A of Progress with version HPUX 10.20.

When using -lng French -cpcase French -cpcoll basic they see all the
typed accentuated characters appearing as {, }, |, @ symbols.
On the unix command line all characters appear correctly, as well as
in vi. The discrepancy is when trying to display them in the
Progress Procedure Editor. The problem occurs with vt100 and a vt220
terminal as well as when on the console or via emulation software
packages (which we do not support).

It appears that adding stty -istrip in the users .profile resolves the
problem.

Additional information:

man stty

istrip (-istrip) Strip (do not strip) input characters to
seven bits.

man termio

If ISTRIP is set, valid input characters are first stripped to 7-bits
otherwise all 8-bits are processed.
