FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
Windows

FIX:

1. The OpenEdge Management product is the best way to do this. OE Management has jobs that can be scheduled to run, they can be monitored and if not running or failed they can restarted automatically or alerts sent. Check with your account rep to purchase this product.
2. There are also similar third party products that could do the same thing, such as one from Bravepoint.
3. Use the command SRVANY.EXE which is part of the Windows NT Resource Kit.
4. Have an AppServer start up your report server using an OS-Command in the startup procedure. Presumably you have some way of sending work to the report server. In the shutdown procedure for the AppServer you would then send a shutdown message to the report server. Between the startup and shutdown of the AppServer you could probably use it to off load work from the report server.
