GOAL:
Is there an CTRL-BREAK alternative to stop a running GUI client session?
GOAL:
What is the key mapping sent by OpenEdge/Progress to the OS when the CTRL-BREAK is pressed?
GOAL:
How to interrupt a GUI client session running under Windows when the keyboard has no BREAK button?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
Creating an alternative for the CTRL-BREAK key combination in Windows is beyond the reach of Progress/OpenEdge. It belongs to the domain of the Windows Operating System and its Registry modifications.
To create an alternative key combination for the CTRL-BREAK, the developer needs to perform a so-called " Key Remapping ". In other words, the developer has to to map another key to send CTRL-BREAK.
Key remapping may be done using any of many third party utility programs that do both temporary as well as permanent key remapping for most keys and some key combinations.
Progress/OpenEdge does not support or recommend any third party key remapping products and does not support any issues arising due to such key remapping activities.
