SYMPTOM(s):
Getting an 1174 error when attempting to start a database on AIX 6.1 with 7.3C01 of Progress
SYSTEM ERROR: Invalid shared memory segment identifier (1174)
proserve demo also fails with an 1174 error
FACT(s) (Environment):
Can create a demo database using: prodb demo demo
Progress $DLC/bin/_* executables have the correct permissions of 4775
Progress $DLC/bin/_* executables have root sys as the owner and group
Progress 7.3C01
Progress 7.3C
IBM AIX 6.1
CHANGE:
Migrated database and Progress executables from an AIX 4.3 machine to an AIX 6.1 machine using an Operating System copy command.
CAUSE:
The shmid_ds structure changed between AIX 4.1 and later AIX versions. The Progress 7.3 binaries were compiled on the earlier AIX release and are not compatible with AIX 6.1
FIX:
1. Either do not migrate the database to the newer AIX 6.1 machine or
2. Obtain a version of Progress/OpenEdge that is compatible with AIX 6.1. Then dump the database in version 7 and then load the database into a new database created with the newer compatible version of Progress.
