GOAL:

Does the probkup command consume disk space for something other than the backup file?

GOAL:

Will the probkup command require harddisk space when it is run, excluding the backup file itself

FACT(s) (Environment):

UNIX
Linux
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

No.

If something is consuming disk space, it's caused by something other than the probkup command.

For example:

Files on the volume may have been deleted, but if a process was still reading those files when they were deleted then they will still consume disk space even though you no longer see the filenames themselves. The disk space will be freed when the job that is reading the files ends and releases the files.

You can use the lsof tool on most UNIX and LINUX platforms to view running processes that have links to files on each volume.
